“The seven who were hanged” by Andrzej Buben based on the short story of the same name by Leonid Andreev – a play about the last days, hours, minutes of life on the brink of death for seven people, who, due to various charges, were sentenced to death by hanging. The story of the failed assassination attempt against a privy councilor, the minister of justice, for the author of the story as well as for the director, is deprived of obvious social issues. The emphasis is made on the life itself and the love for it. Andreev foremost was interested in the question of what is going on in the soul and psyche of a person expecting the moment of death. What discoveries does it bring to youth and death? What does a person live through at this horrible border? This small-scale play is aligned as an intimate and sincere conversation with the audience.
