A beauty is looking for a rich husband and in the pursuit for a successful match gets in a deadfall of a hoax. The plot of this play by Ostrovsky resembles “Without a Dowry” by the same author, but all the situations of the drama here are interpreted sharp-wittedly. Russia in the end of XIX century, when the magnificent era of lighthearted beauties and reckless wastrels, burning money on no end, was being replaced by austere providence and rationing, the time when the new standards of business and family relations were developing, reminds Russia of 2010s. The world of Ostrovsky’s heroes, in which convexly presented vices and virtues engage in an intricate game and interconnection, continues the satiric line of the repertoire policy of Akimov’s Comedy Theatre, in which an important place has always belonged to the social criticism.
