“Hamlet. Screen” – a play based on so called “hamletons”, short, sometimes facetious tales, that, in their turn, are based on the plot of the great tragedy and made up by the creators of the performance. The genre is defined as “postpunkpuppetshow”. The creators of the performance engender their own mythological space, in which the high tragedy cohabitates with the abrasive laughter culture, allowing to see well-known characters from a different point of view.
All the roles are performed by men – but it is a reference not even to the Shakespeare’s times, but to the tradition of market shows. In this element of game masks, puppets, grotesque figures act to turn the tragedy upside down, revealing tragic through the laughter.
